I'm a Stylist Who Just Got Back From Paris—These 6 Buys Are Everywhere Right Now
Bee Newham
Fashion stylist, Bee Newham just returned from Paris with the exact pieces French women are wearing this summer; from mid-wash denim and khaki cargos to Celine sunglasses and Tabis.
As a fashion stylist, I think there is nothing quite as chic as French fashion. From the couture to the vintage curation, the French have always been leading the way. So if you’re wondering what to wear in Paris this summer, I’ve done the research for you—on the streets, in real time.
On a recent trip to Paris, I found myself so inspired by the women I passed everyday. If you have a trip booked soon, this is everything you need to pack and exactly what to wear in Paris to nail that effortless French girl style.
Despite the soaring temperatures, the Parisian women were committed to their jeans. The most popular styles I spotted were a straight or cropped kick flare, and always in a mid wash blue.
I don’t think anyone wears denim better than the French, and Sezane has a great range of styles and washes this season. I particularly love their Le Crop style.
I am my happiest in a pair of khaki trousers and it seems like Parisian women feel the same way. I spotted several pairs of green cargo trousers and shorts around the city. All were effortless, understated and undeniably cool.
To recreate the look yourself I love the Marcelle barrel leg trousers from Citizens of Humanity. They come in a range of green shades and have a loose but flattering fit.
For khaki shorts I really like the Sandy shorts from Reformation. They are a low-rise knee length short with a relaxed fit. They are perfect to be worn at home or as a holiday piece.
Parisians love their accessories, especially designer ones. I spotted many pairs of Celine sunglasses, including the Rectangle and Triomphe styles.
The statement Maison Celine belt also caught my attention on several stylish women. I love this belt styled with a pair of straight jeans, simple vest top and leather sandals.
For handbags, a woven style was definitely the accessory of choice on the streets of Paris. I spotted vintage leather versions and styles by Dragon Diffusion.
Their Santa Croce woven-leather top-handle basket bag comes in a range of shades, and is perfect to use all year round. But I am loving the pearl colour for summer.
Finally, for footwear I saw Maison Margiela Tabi shoes on the coolest women across the city. I’ll admit they haven’t always been my shoe of choice, but seeing them styled so well has made me change my mind about them.
My favourite look from the trip featured a woman in a black lace cami paired with blue denim bermuda shorts and black Tabis. I’ve also recently styled a client in a bright red pair, and I think they are a great way to add a pop of colour to a neutral summer outfit.
However, my biggest takeaway from my trip was that Parisian women truly wear whatever makes them feel good. Whether it’s a new piece, a vintage find, or something inspired by the latest trends, their style is all about dressing for themselves.
