Expensive but Worth It? An Editor's Honest Thoughts on Joonbyrd
Alice Hartwell
Does this premium bodycare brand live up to the hype (and price tag)?
If one luxury beauty brand has been gaining traction over the last few years, it’s Joonbyrd. Its colourful bottles of gourmand-scented body care have been turning heads for both their charming packaging and steep price tags.
Asking you to fork out nearly £40 for a body wash is quite the ask. But does Joonbyrd walk the walk? I put a few of the brand’s most popular products to the test to find out.
Behind the Brand: Joonbyrd
Joonbyrd is a luxury body care brand founded by London-based dermatologist Dr Alexis Granite. Built around the idea that the skin below our neck deserves just as much attention as our face, the brand combines clinically backed actives with sensorial formulas and distinctive, design-led packaging.
Its range spans everything from body washes and moisturisers to targeted treatments, with formulas designed to address concerns including dryness, texture and blemishes.
Joonbyrd Products In Review
One of the range’s bestsellers, I really didn’t want to like a nearly £40 body wash. Unfortunately for my bank account, it’s absolutely beautiful.
Its rich, creamy lather is unlike any other body wash I’ve used. It feels almost like applying a moisturiser mid-shower, leaving skin deeply hydrated and supple. It’s also scented with a biscuity caramel fragrance, which may be a little sweet for some. (But I love it.)
I also love the rubber base on this body wash (a detail found across much of the range), which means it actually stays put on your shower shelf or bath edge without going flying.
This body scrub is formulated with a gentle blend of exfoliators, including chia seeds and fine sugar granules.
Personally, I like my body scrubs with a little more grit, per se. (The OUAI scrub is a great example.) This one is a little too fine for my liking, and I don’t feel like it does quite enough.
If you have sensitive skin, however, I can absolutely see the appeal. It could be a great option if you find traditional body scrubs a little too abrasive.
This body butter is incredibly rich, both in texture and its sugar-sweet scent. It’s formulated with a whole host of actives and feels luxuriously thick as you apply it, yet somehow never leaves a greasy film behind.
I reach for it whenever my skin needs a serious hit of moisture, or before going out when I want it to have a delicate, lingering scent.
Can you find body butters that do just as good a job for less than £50? Absolutely. But if you love a bit of Joonbyrd luxury, you’ll love this.
For me, this serum is the star of the Joonbyrd line-up. While you may be giving a silent yikes at its £78 price tag, I can soften the blow with the promise that a little goes a long way—and it really is beautiful.
Unique in texture, this serum behaves more like an oil, leaving skin thoroughly hydrated and nourished with a beautiful glow. It also has a soft vanilla scent that feels a little more subtle than the sugary sweetness found throughout much of the range.
Joonbyrd states that it is also clinically proven to improve the appearance of crepey skin, cellulite and stretch marks. I can’t speak too much to that personally, but the immediate difference it makes to how supple and nourished my skin feels is certianly impressive.
Final Thoughts
I find Joonbyrd an interesting young brand that I’m excited to see grow and evolve. While I have a lot of love for many of the products, I’d be remiss to say I could justify keeping the entire range in rotation at these prices.
It’s worth noting you can buy refills for follow-up purchases, which does bring the cost down slightly, but this is a brand I’d rather dip into like a sweet shop. One or two of my favourite products, brought out when I want to feel my very best or simply fancy a treat.
